[INUG-Users] Automation Help

An automation looks for a set of alerts to act upon. The set is
filtered using the "Condition" of the Trigger. What you do with the
results is usually configured in the "action". Sometimes you don't need
a separate "Action" in that you can just change the alerts using the
condition by updating the alerts.
Once the automation runs, that alerts are sometimes tagged so as to not
be seen by the automation again. Opening a ticket for instance. A menu
option can set a field to "1". An automation will look for alerts with
that field set to "1", and in the "action", launch a ticket opening
script and also set the field to "2".

So if your automation is tagging alerts that you don't want, then the
"condition" needs to be changed or the action is doing more than it
needs.

What is your "Condition" sql, and the action sql?

Subject: [INUG-Users] Automation Help

Folks,
I need to figure out how to update the journal for any alert
that
the GenericClear or the Expire automation affects. I went into
"actions" in
the automations, and turned on the "Journal" option, which wrote SO MANY
journal entries into alerts that were NOT impacted by GenericClear or
Expire
that it was unusable. Of all the things I have done in Netcool/Omnibus,
automations is one that I (unfortunately) never got the hang of writing
or
modifying. I went through the documentation on automations in the Admin
Guide before sending this email, so I hope I get a better answer than
"RTFM"... because I already did... :o) As always, your assistance is
greatly appreciated!
