[INUG-Users] java memory issue, users not able to acknowledge events in netcool -webtop

Actually, a "java memory issue" may be a little easier to solve than a "system memory" issue. Daniel offers good advice. However, I believe there is a properties file somewhere that specifies how much memory the JRE is allowed to allocate for the Webtop server, and I believe that the "out of the box" settings are quite a bit less than that "max" settings that the JRE can use. I also believe that you can run the ncw_report to see what percentage of available memory is being used by Webtop.

Just to be clear, my comments are based on my understanding that Webtop runs in a Java "virtual machine" which is simply a process running on a slightly less "virtual" machine with its own memory settings and requirements. I have seen Webtop run out of memory when the server itself had several GB of available memory, and it was due to the JRE memory settings.

It has been a while since I messed with this, which is why I am being more vague than usual about the solution...

Hi,

It is quite hard to offer suggestions without knowing how you have configured Webtop (what version, whether it is running on its own server or is located with other Netcool products, server specifications etc), and even if Webtop was performing in an acceptable way before the memory issue occured. However as an interim solution to allow normal operations to continue you could make the native event list available to your monitoring team so they can manage their events by physically connecting to the Webtop server. With fewer users attempting to connect to Webtop, performance should also improve for those who you would not want accessing the native event list directly.

Subject: [INUG-Users] java memory issue,users not able to acknowledge events in netcool -webtop

Hello all,

The netcool -webtop users were unable to login to the netcool-webtop site
due to java memory error, so now this issue is resolved by increasing the
memory options in the config file in the following way,

Previously the setting used was

MEMORY_OPTS="-Xmx512m"

The settings now used are

MEMORY_OPTS="-Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -Xss256k"

Now the users are able to login to the WebTop site ,but the issue is the
site takes a long time to open, and also when the users try to acknowledge
or delete any alarms, the whole site crashes and the monitoring team is not
able to make any changes to the alarms,

Can someone please suggest a permanent solution
